Party Animals At The Zoo

You know, when you live in a zoo you have to be careful of what you promise those darned party animals during peak party times. They can get a little bit excited and then it snowballs into an out of control mess. The monkeys asked last night if they could ring in the New Year at the right time this year. We weighed our options then decided that the oldest monkey is too smart for her own good and setting the clocks ahead a coupla hours this year wouldn't work. (Darn it!) We told them that they could stay up if they could A.) be nice to each other the whole time and B.) promised PROMISED that they wouldn't be grumpy monkeys the next day. All three chimps jumped up and down and promised on their future banana rations that they would. I was ready for bed by 7:48 and wondered how the other zoo keeper was doing. He was nodding off too. Then we got a brilliant idea! We decided that Ryan Seacres was in NYC and that they are two, count them TWO hours ahead of us! Whoopee! We could put good old Ryan on and when the big ball dropped the monkeys would be so excited that they wouldn't notice the clock...maybe. So we decided to tune into ABC. Only too bad for us because there was a time delay in NYC. For some reason, even though it said "Live" in the corner of the screen the ball wasn't getting ready to drop! So we decided that we'd record Ryan's night on the town and that we'd have the kids celebrate early. They were upset at first - they wanted to stay up until the bewitching hour. But when I pulled out the gold noise makers and the confetti shooter thingies their eyes got big and they quickly agreed that they could watch a recorded version the next morning. So at 9:34 we did our count down and blew in our noise makers and shot off our confetti shooters. Jeff & I were in bed by 10:00. We watched an episode of Family Guy and then went to bed. Lame, lame lame… But at least we're not droopy and tired today! I think we might do it this way again next year.
